چکیده

The paper provides an economic rationale for punishing repeat offenders with increasing sanctions. We analyse the optimal intertemporal punishment scheme within an infinite game framework. The legal authority is assumed to minimize the social cost of punishment under the constraint of keeping delinquency at a maximal tolerable level. This level is exogenously determined. JEL classification: K14

Economic Analysis of Late Payment Fines Remission of Driving in Iran, Game Theory Approach

One of the most important tools to reduce traffic violations and consequently the number of accidents in the country is to penalize the offenders. In Iran, double penalty is approved for delaying in payment of a fine, but it is possible that a significant number of offenders would not pay their fines in addition to late payment fines. Hence, in this study, the interactions between traffic polic...

An exact penalty function for semi-infinite programming

This paper introduces a global approach to the semi-infinite programming problem that is based upon a generalisation of the g~ exact penalty function. The advantages are that the ensuing penalty function is exact and the penalties include all violations. The merit function requires integrals for the penalties, which provides a consistent model for the algorithm. The discretization is a result o...

The preemptive resource-constrained project scheduling problem subject to due dates and preemption penalties: An integer programming approach

Extensive research has been devoted to resource constrained project scheduling problem. However, little attention has been paid to problems where a certain time penalty must be incurred if activity preemption is allowed. In this paper, we consider the project scheduling problem of minimizing the total cost subject to resource constraints, earliness-tardiness penalties and preemption penalties, ...

Game Penalties Decrease Learning and Interest

Penalties are frequently used in games and rarely in tutors, creating a dilemma for designers seeking to combine games and tutors to maximize fun and learning. On the one hand, penalties can be frustrating and waste instructional time, on the other, they may increase excitement and prevent gaming. This study tested the effects of penalties on learning and interest. In a randomized, controlled e...

A numerical approach for optimal control model of the convex semi-infinite programming

In this paper, convex semi-infinite programming is converted to an optimal control model of neural networks and the optimal control model is solved by iterative dynamic programming method. In final, numerical examples are provided for illustration of the purposed method.
